About
Dynasty Seafood sits in a West Broadway office-building lobby that still looks like late-eighties Vancouver, faux green marble and all. The room dates to 1992 as East Ocean, part of a Hong Kong banquet group that also ran Victoria Restaurant. When East Ocean ownership returned to Hong Kong, local management took over; Alfred Yeung bought the business in 2009 and kept the focus on Hong Kong Cantonese standards for banquet seafood, lunch dim sum, and family celebrations. Vancouver Magazine named Dynasty Restaurant of the Year in 2026 after years of Best Chinese and Best Dim Sum titles, and the Chinese Restaurant Awards placed it No. 1 Canada in 2025 (No. 3 in 2026’s Elite 30). Michelin has recommended the restaurant multiple years running.
Kitchen leadership is the house story. Chef Cao Can Hui trained in-house under original chef Sam Leung, a mentorship path Vancouver Magazine calls increasingly rare. Dim sum head chef Garley Leung, Dim Sum Chef of the Year for Canada in 2025, arrived in Vancouver in 1981 after northern-style dim sum apprenticeships in Hong Kong and built a career at Pink Pearl and other early rooms before Dynasty. Press keeps returning to lemon-scented BBQ pork pastry, truffle-leaning mushroom dumplings, and black-pepper pork pastries with floral heat beside classic banquet seafood. Lunch runs roughly 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; dinner 5 to 10 p.m. Free parking windows are part of the Broadway office-building package. Book early for weekend dim sum and celebrations.
Come when you want City of Vancouver Cantonese banquet polish without driving to Richmond. Pair with Jade or Chef Tony when the group is already in Golden Village, or Chang’An when you want Shaanxi duck ceremony and biang biang instead of Hong Kong banquet seafood.
Menu highlights

Diners say
Families and banquet tables talk about consistent Cantonese cooking, warm service, and dim sum that still feels handcrafted rather than factory. Awards chatter shows up in diner notes now that Vancouver Magazine and the Chinese Restaurant Awards keep putting Dynasty on top lists. Regulars treat it as a birthday and out-of-town-parents room on Broadway.
Caveats are price above casual Chinatown or food-court Cantonese, a large lively banquet floor, and weekend dim sum demand that rewards a reservation. People hunting Richmond’s densest plaza competition still drive south. Dynasty is the Broadway awards banquet stop.
